The Yew Tree

The Yew Tree stands at the corner of Beardall Street and Portland Road. Beardall Street is named after a family of that name, who were landlords of the Yew Tree for a number of generations. The Beardall's were devout baptists and in the early years of the 19th century held services in a house near to the pub (alcohol and religion appear to have mixed quite well in those times). Aswell as the pub, other branches of the family were involving in the hosiery trade and farming.
